About
What art history is (vs. studio practice or pure appreciation), why study it, basic chronology/geography conventions, the roles of description vs. interpretation, and introductory close-looking habits. Draws on standard survey openers from Smarthistory/Khan and Lumen/Boundless-style intros.
Goal
Define key art-historical terms and approaches; explain the value of historical and cultural context; and produce a careful written description of an artwork’s visible features without jumping to unsupported interpretation.
