About
Practical skills for visiting museums and using collections (physical or digital): preparing for a visit, navigating architecture and galleries, reading labels/wall text critically, close looking in real space/time, note-taking and sketching, understanding collection histories/display choices/provenance issues, and reflecting on the museum as an interpretive institution. Draws on AHTR museum guides and Smarthistory museum tools.
Goal
Plan and complete a focused museum (or high-quality virtual collection) visit; produce a reflective analysis of 1–3 works that integrates on-site formal observation with contextual and institutional awareness (display, labeling, possible colonial or market histories); articulate personal strategies for lifelong museum engagement.
