About
A focused undergraduate path covering instruction set architecture (ISA), processor pipelining, caches and the memory hierarchy, and quantitative performance measurement—aligned with standard CS major sequences (e.g., post UCLA CS 32/33/35L and discrete math). Emphasizes the hardware/software interface, how programs map to machines, and how to reason about and improve performance.
Goal
Design, analyze, and optimize simple pipelined processors and memory hierarchies; evaluate ISA and microarchitectural choices using quantitative performance metrics (CPI, AMAT, speedup, roofline-style reasoning); and explain how compilers and OS interact with the architecture.
